To Protect Clean Fuel System
Add to the fuel tank prior to refuelling. Always ensure that fuel tanks are treated whenever topped up.
Fuel tanks always contain some water at the bottom. Even petroleum fuel such as diesel and petrol contains some amount water. The longer is the fuel left unused inside the tanks more water is collected at the bottom.
Some amount of water is always present at the bottom of all fuel tanks. Invariably water is present at all fuel tank bottoms.
The newly refined oil coming straight out of the refinery is hot, as the oil cools down water solubility also decreases. As a result the dissolved water condenses and settles down in the refinery storage tanks. During transportation also the oil continues to cool. The specific gravity of water is higher than that of the fuel, therefore cooled water drops out of the fuel to settle at the tank bottom or at the low points in the pipelines.
Fuels are usually stored for a considerably long time before it reaches the customer therefore will always contain some water. Biological diesels such as (FAME) tend to hold more water than the conventional diesels. The accumulated water is an ideal environment for the microbes to thrive and contaminate the fuel severely compromising the consistency and quality of the fuel.
This technical challenge is commonly faced by all bulk storage owners and operators. All contaminated fuels especially biological diesels and low Sulphur variants exhibit unique issues when operated.
Moisture may also be absorbed by the fuels from atmosphere during storage, the water content present in the fuels leads to microbial fuel bug. There may be as much as 0.1 percent of accumulated water due to condensation during storage over longer time period. The situation is worse in hot climates.
Long term storage of the fuel and as a result accumulated water severely affects the fuel quality due to thriving microbes. Microbial contamination of the fuel results in fuel degeneration and reduced fuel lubricity. Harmful microbes break down fuel additives and compromise fuel quality.

I bought this to put in our boat's fuel tank to kill the diesel-bugs.
Highly recommended product! If you leave your fuel in tank sitting for more than a few months. I got 'black death' fungus and had to clean tank and hoses...what a miserable job that was...I've had same fuel in tank, now, for 6 months and not a single spot of fungus...
